On October 19, 2024, over 800 delegates from across the country and abroad – including eight from GSCI – convened virtually to discuss and vote on Girl Scouts’ national membership dues. The following annual membership dues increases were approved:
No changes occur for this membership year, which runs from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025. Please remember that the MY2026 membership renewal begins on April 1, 2025. The dues increase will take effect in this renewal period.
The original recommendation from the GSUSA National Board was girl membership dues be $85 (phased in over 3 years. ($68 for 2026, $77 for 2027 and $85 for 2028) and adult membership dues be $45.
Under the adopted plan, GSUSA will return 25% of the total of youth members’ dues beginning in 2027 (when dues reach $65) to their council for the next five years. Currently, none of the $25 annual membership dues is retained by Girl Scouts of Central Illinois. Lifetime membership fees will not change at this time.
Girl Scouts offers a variety of innovative programs for girls and their families, teaches leadership skills, enables girls to try new things and discover their passions while making the world a better place for everyone through community service projects. This rise in membership dues is the first increase in eight years and is similar to (and often times still less than) what other youth-servicing organizations charge. Girls deserve engaging programming that meet their evolving interests, and our volunteers deserve quality resources and better technology. These funds will serve as an important investment in Girl Scouting so that it continues to impact future generations of girls.
With increased funding through philanthropy and membership dues, the Movement will have the opportunity to accelerate initiatives to improve programming and engagement models.
This includes simplified tools for volunteers, enhanced older girl programming, national marketing, new engagement models for girls and families, improved technology to reduce costs while increasing the ease of accessing our programs and serving our families in the way they expect, and more.
GSCI remains committed to ensuring that anyone and everyone who wants to participate in Girl Scouting has the option to do so regardless of their family’s financial situation and will continue to support our members with financial assistance opportunities.
